About the Committee

On 4 May in the Netherlands we commemorate victims of war, and on 5 May we celebrate the fact that we live in freedom. The National Committee helps determine how meaning is given to commemorating and celebrating and to how the memory of the Second World War is kept alive.

4 May

May 4 is the day on which the Netherlands commemorates its victims of war.

5 May

On 5 May, the Netherlands celebrates the day it was liberated.

Education

We develop educational materials for various age categories dealing with the themes of 4 and 5 May, war and freedom.

Research

The National Committee for 4 and 5 May carries out research on commemorating, celebrating and remembering.
